The use of hashtags on social media is very helpful when creating a post or embarking on a campaign. Whether we like it or not, technology is far advancing and making things easier for people to connect with others—those they know in real life and even total strangers.
However, some of these campaigns that we can use social media to champion need a strategic approach.
For some time now, some radio personalities in the Brong Ahafo Region have launched a campaign #BAMusicMustRise with the aim of catapulting songs produced in the region. Honestly, some of these personalities are playing enviable roles to make this dream become a reality—but there is more to be done.
There are few radio stations that have dedicated a whole program playing only songs made in the region for some hours non-stop.
I have observed that when it comes to some peak radio programs like Mid-Morning show, Launch time, Drive time and others—then songs made in the region gets missing from the playlists of the majority of the Presenters/DJs. I know there are types of songs to be played for every program and one would say maybe the B/A songs cannot be mixed with selections for a certain program—but a check of BPM, tempo and rhythm will expose anyone who would argue on this.
Gone were there days, when some people thought the musicians were not writing good songs and the sound engineers too were not producing quality sounds. Now, things are changing, some of the musicians in the Brong Ahafo region are writing good songs while many of the sound engineers are producing an up to scratch sounds.
Okay, now that we are having good songs being churned out in the region, what else can Radio Presenters, DJs, Mobile DJs, Event Organisers and all stakeholders do to help and market songs made by musicians who are based in the Brong Ahafo region?
In fact, promoting/marketing a song is not an easy task. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, resources and money to reach your target.
Moving forward, I suggest these parties must form a uniform body, deliberate on issues of challenges, solutions and also walk the talk.
There are great talents in the Brong Ahafo region—and we can unearth them through a strategic and positive systematic approach.
Teamwork is what we have to think about if we want to make giant strides within the Ghanaian Music Industry.
